dream summer
Well the " Summer of Larry" is over. I'd like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Cable Guy for once again hosting the Fattens, I mean the Battens at their unimaginabley beautiful lake house in Northern Wisconsin. Earlier this month, my family and I flew up to the fertile fields of Wisconsin to start our 10 day fantasy eating, and fishing camp. As soon as we arrived, I went off on a three day tour with Larry and our wives had the privledge of mothering our four collective children while we were out on the grueling road trip. Once Larry and I rejoined the family, it was all about fishing, eating, whiffle ball, Seinfeld trivia and four wheelers. The weather was a little rough for us Florida folk, but we didn't care. We genuinely savored every moment of the all too short escape. Oh, by the way, Larry caught the biggest fish of the week taking the golden pike award. A 31 inch Norther pike. pics coming soon. God Bless the Batten Outdoors faithful or in other words, Thanks mom.... Programing note: Saturday August 8th, we will be broadcasting live at Wekiva Island again with Bubba hitting the stage at 2... do not miss this party........

Larry at Memorial Stadium
The weekend of July 4th 2009 will forever be etched in my memory as the most intense thrill I've ever had with my buddy Larry! Although by my estimations, I've seen hundreds of Larry The Cable Guy shows, his live recording in front of 60 thousand people at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln Ne. was the climax of all my expieriences. I arrived at Larry's farm, just outside of Lincoln on the 3rd to a house full of supportive family and close friends. That night we all caravaned over to Omaha to watch Larry and Reno Colliere warm up for their big night. I gotta say, it was quite a sight to see my ole buddy perform his magic in a club again. Imagine the thrill of the patrons when and unannounced Larry walks on the stage to do an hour 20! Two words, He killed.. The next morning, I rose early to watch deer feed on his 100 acre soy bean field. Shortly after, we took two full tour buses the short distance to the venue. And what a venue it was. To see Larry actually nervous before a show was assurance the 60 thousand in attendance were in for the night of their lives. Josh Wolf my hunky buddy from LA went on about 8:00 that evening and delivered his most memorable performance. Then the awaiting crowd was treated to 15 minutes of funny by Larry's long time opener Reno Colliere. Finally, Lincoln reached a fever pitch as their home town boy hit the stage hollering "Git R Done" to a thunderous roar. I goes without saying that he absolutely slaughered the Nebraska faithful. The night culminated with "Air Disater" Larry's air band rocking two 80's metal songs for the still full crowd. I have been very fortunate in my life to witness first hand the rise of Larry's stardum, but watching him "rock" 60 thousand people, I couldn't help but harken back to the comedy club days of the 90's when he had the same effect on 200 people. What an expierience, what a night. Now our families are off to spend some time fishing in the North Woods of my second favorite state, Wisconsin. Fishing with Larry for 10 staight days,, the thrills just keep on coming. Listen for our call in to Batten Outdoors from the lake,,, Greg

Rockin at Wekiva
Wow, what a time the Batten Outdoors boys had at Wekiva Island Saturday. That place is perfect for us. Set in old Florida on the Wekiva River, it boast a fabulous ( gay word I know ) beer selection and canoe rentals. After our broadcast, Bubba and the Whoopoffs took the stage and rocked the rednecks.. Yours truely got up with them to ham it up a bit also. you can see the performance linked to youtube on our home page. check it out. I gotta say, Bubba and I look real sexy standing next to each other on stage. I saw a lot of women tuggin at the corner of their drawers ( my wife never get's that one ) . Next week, Jeff Howell will be filling in for me as I will be with Larry in Nebraska watching him perform and film his next DVD live at Memorial Stadium. 58k people in attendance!! I will call in tho, and you never know who I will stick on the phone.. Talk to ya'll from Lincoln NE next Saturday, Greg Batten,,, Giddy up!!!
